The Approaches to Community Wellbeing department, a regional resource for 31 First Nations Communities in The Approaches to Community Wellbeing department, is seeking a Disaster Response Specialist. Located in the Sioux Lookout Zone, this role supports communities in their preparedness efforts against threats to health.
Job Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled Disaster Response Specialist to join our team at Northwest Employment Works. As a key member of our Safe Communities department, you will play a vital role in supporting communities in their emergency preparedness efforts.
About the Role
The Disaster Response Specialist will support communities in developing and implementing pandemic and emergency response plans. This will involve conducting training sessions and workshops with community members and Tribal Councils. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining records of community pandemic plans and emergency response plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Support communities in developing and implementing pandemic and emergency response plans
- Conduct training sessions and workshops with community members and Tribal Councils
- Maintain records of community pandemic plans and emergency response plans
- Coordinate and deliver emergency preparedness training and refreshers for communities and Tribal Councils
- Work with the Safe Communities Manager to maintain ACW Emergency Response Plan
- Monitor threats to health in the region (e.g., forest fires) and communicate prevention messages
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A university degree in a health-related field
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop and maintain respectful/cooperative relationships with First Nations people, communities, service stakeholders, and health care providers
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
What We Offer
