Ideal Candidate Profile

We seek a knowledgeable and experienced professional with a background in the natural resource sector. The successful candidate will oversee the engineering and design of various projects, including roads, bridges, and infrastructure, as well as field services for both public and private sectors.

The role requires expertise in concrete, steel, and timber design, along with experience in bridge inspections and evaluations. Familiarity with preparing contract documents, technical specifications, and capital cost estimates will be advantageous.

Utilizing strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure project completion within established timelines and budgets while maintaining high-quality standards.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Develop proposals and cost estimates
  • Prepare engineering designs and associated documentation for various projects
  • Engage directly with clients, team members, and contractors to clarify project requirements and expectations
  • Assist in scoping, budgeting, designing, and managing civil and structural projects, including bridge design, roads, infrastructure, and field services
  • Conduct and supervise field inspections and assessments
  • Draft technical memorandums, reports, and studies
  • Create design drawings and specifications
  • Provide technical mentorship to Engineers-in-Training (EITs) and designers
  • Collaborate with and lead a structural team, including engineers, designers, and project coordinators, to produce engineering designs and related documentation
  • Manage client relationships at both technical and commercial levels to ensure satisfaction and identify further opportunities

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering, and registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience in the natural resource sector, particularly in road, bridge, and access infrastructure
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards
  • Exceptional communication skills, both interpersonal and written
  • Proven capability to collaborate with clients and team members in a multidisciplinary environment
  • Strong technical competence and attention to detail
  • Additional qualifications that are advantageous but not mandatory include:
  • Registration as a Professional Forester (RPF) in British Columbia
  • Experience with RoadEng and Civil 3D software
  • Background in construction layout reviews or surveys
  • Experience in reviewing shop drawings and responding to Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Expertise in designing concrete, steel, and timber structures
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater design
  • Experience in remote or Northern British Columbia environments
  • Familiarity with material testing, including soils and concrete
