The Sanitation Department Lead will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of our sanitation department. This role will lead a team of dedicated professionals to ensure that our facility meets and exceeds all GMP and cleaning standards. The successful candidate will have excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to effectively motivate and manage their team while maintaining a high level of compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role will play a key part in ensuring the proper disposal of waste, adherence to environmental regulations, and the ongoing development of team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead sanitation employees in a multi-shift 24-hour bakery production operation
  • Monitor and enforce GMP compliance by all operators
  • Ensure compliance of all employees to weekly/monthly training schedule
  • Execute sanitation cleaning plans based on established priorities and sequences for the bakery facility
  • Work closely with other departments to achieve organizational goals
  • Manage employee performance, discipline, and development
  • Dispose of all forms of waste in a legal and cost-effective manner
  • Ensure facility meets all municipal and provincial wastewater regulations
  • Ensure sanitation team is trained to handle potentially hazardous cleaning agents
  • Adhere to master cleaning schedule
  • Provide leadership and performance development to employees
  • Flexibility around shift work is required with availability for overtime hours

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in food science or related field
  • 3-5 years management experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • 5-7 years experience managing a sanitation department in a food manufacturing environment
  • Good knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and Safety policies
  • Organized, goal-oriented, problem-solver, and able to lead sanitation department
  • Flexibility around shift work is required with availability for overtime hours
  • Proper understanding of WHMIS requirements
  • Excellent attendance and work habits
