Halton Healthcare is seeking a Peer Mentor to join our team. As a Peer Mentor, you will work with individuals who are navigating the mental health system, providing support and guidance to help them achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support individuals in their recovery journey, providing a unique perspective and understanding of the mental health system.
  • Advocate on behalf of individuals, helping to resolve issues and access necessary resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships with service providers, ensuring seamless transitions and support for clients.
  • Assist with intake and assessments, developing comfort plans and providing support for referrals.
  • Engage in activities that promote Halton Healthcare programs, increasing client participation and engagement.
  • Complete necessary documentation, adhering to agency guidelines and standards.
  • Participate in training and education sessions, staying up-to-date on best practices and regional advocacy groups.
Requirements:
  • Lived experience within the Addictions and/or Mental Health system.
  • Excellent customer service skills and knowledge of common challenges faced by those navigating the system.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required.
  • Proven confidence to advocate with an open mind, reducing stigma within the addiction and mental health system.
  • Awareness of Ontario Disability Supports Program (ODSP), Ontario Works (OW), Health and Safety, Ontario Human Rights, Employment Standard Act.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and independently.
  • Ability to adapt to various work environments and flexible work hours to meet program, employer, and client demands.
  • Completed post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and the Recovery Model.
  • Have or be willing to obtain Core Skills Training, Peer Worker training, ASIST, Mental Health First Aid, and First Aid & CPR.
