About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Training and Development Manager to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Vehicle Transportation Inspection Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our provincial highway infrastructure and the public.

Primary Accountabilities

As the Training and Development Manager, you will be responsible for the management, development, and facilitation of training programs for Vehicle Compliance Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Carrier Safety Auditors, and Motor Carrier Inspectors. You will provide leadership, guidance, and problem-solving direction to Vehicle Transportation Inspection Officers, Regional Managers, and Administrative Staff, as well as the Senior Director, Vehicle Transport Inspection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement training programs that meet the needs of our staff and stakeholders
  • Collaborate with other government departments to ensure accreditation and record-keeping of training programs
  • Communicate with industry stakeholders and the public to deliver training and program initiatives
  • Maintain uniformity and reciprocity of information and training with Provincial, State, and Federal Jurisdictions
  • Develop and maintain training records and coordinate all required training
Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for a candidate with several years of progressive, practical experience in delivering training, curriculum development, and training module development. You must be knowledgeable in industry divisions such as the Vehicle Act and all related Regulations, have a CVSA background, and a strong background in vehicle mechanics.

You will be comfortable, confident, and competent in delivering presentations and public speaking, and have the ability to maintain and organize training records. As the Manager, you have or will be able to acquire and maintain Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CSVA) Certification. Computer skills are required, including familiarity with Word Processing, Spread Sheets, Presentation Software, etc.

Working Conditions

The location of work is flexible within the province, and you will be required to travel extensively throughout the province in various weather and road conditions.
