About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Training and Development Manager to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our Vehicle Transportation Inspection Division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety of our provincial highway infrastructure.

Primary Accountabilities

You will be responsible for the management, development, and facilitation of training programs for Vehicle Compliance Officers, Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Carrier Safety Auditors, and Motor Carrier Inspectors. This will include:

  • Developing and implementing training curricula that meet industry standards and regulatory requirements
  • Providing leadership, guidance, and problem-solving direction to Vehicle Transportation Inspection Officers, Regional Managers, and Administrative Staff
  • Collaborating with other government departments to ensure accreditation and record-keeping of training programs
  • Communicating with industry stakeholders and the public on training initiatives and programs
  • Maintaining uniformity and reciprocity of information and training with Provincial, State, and Federal Jurisdictions
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Several years of progressive experience in delivering training, curriculum development, and training module development
  • Knowledge of industry divisions, including the Vehicle Act and related Regulations
  • CVSA background and strong background in vehicle mechanics
  • Ability to deliver presentations and public speaking
  • Computer skills, including familiarity with Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and Presentation Software

Working Conditions

This role requires extensive travel throughout the province, in various weather and road conditions. You will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and make decisions quickly, often with limited information.

Additional Information

The successful candidate will be required to be appointed as an Inspector and Peace Officer in accordance with the Motor Vehicle and Police Act.
