Facility Maintenance Technician Role

The Building Maintenance Power Engineer is responsible for operating the facility, including mechanical and supporting systems. This role involves performing structured inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance, routine and on-demand services on facility mechanical equipment and other systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct observations and provide suggestions for enhancement and repair of facility, mechanical, and electrical equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies.
  • Perform regular facility, mechanical, and other equipment and systems monitoring inspections, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation, and asset integrity of assigned facility are maintained.
  • Respond to routine and on-demand service requests and perform preventative and corrective maintenance on facility mechanical equipment and other systems.
  • Monitor assigned facility by conducting facility walkthroughs for mechanical, electrical, and other equipment system monitoring and inspection.
  • Operate facility mechanical and other systems.
  • Manage work order life cycle progressing the work from dispatched through to completion and records resolution data within service maintenance management database. Ensure work completed meets quality, contract response, and all other requirements.
  • Assist in the implementation of preventative maintenance (PM) program. Ensure that deficiencies are identified, recorded, and escalated, and that related documents are maintained.
  • Perform work in accordance with established processes and practices.
  • Comply with all internal and external requirements, including environmental, health, and safety, fire protection.

Client Relations

  • Assist in enhancing tenant and customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through the manner in which work is performed and services delivered.

Administration

  • Participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
  • Ensure the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices, and guidelines related to environmental, health, and safety, fire protection, and any other applicable requirements.
  • Maintain all assigned tools and arrange for repair and replacement where required.
  • Submit all expenditures on a timely basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills

  • High school diploma plus trades training and/or certification or licensing.
  • Experience providing preventive and corrective maintenance on heating, ventilation, and air conditions systems, or pneumatic or hydraulic systems.
  • Sound knowledge of processes and practices relating to facility operations and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain, troubleshoot, and repair (as per applicable qualifications) mechanical and other building systems and equipment.
  • Possesses a strong environmental, health, and safety mindset.
  • Strong client-service orientation along with a high sense of urgency.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) and HVAC.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call/standby, and emergency call-outs as they arise.
  • Must strictly adhere to Health and Safety policies, including wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Must be capable of obtaining appropriate security clearance.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Power Engineer Certification, or willing to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Building Operator Certification or equivalent through an accredited institution required.
