Job Summary

Hydro Ottawa is seeking a highly skilled Payroll and Pension Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our compensation and benefits team, you will be responsible for supporting all aspects of payroll, compensation, and pension plan administration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support payroll processing, including verification and accuracy of payroll data in accordance with statutory and contractual requirements.
  • Analyze and apply relevant legislation, including the Income Tax Act, Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) rules, and Employment Standards Act.
  • Prepare and verify statements of earnings for employees, maintain data integrity in the Human Resources Information System (HRIS), and review control work processes to isolate remuneration anomalies.
  • Develop and implement payroll practices and procedures to facilitate high-quality services and continuous improvement.
  • Act as a resource and provide advice and support on payroll and compensation programs, assist with federal and provincial government agencies, and support the year-end reconciliation process.
  • Prepare monthly metrics reports, assist in preparing information for audits, and deliver on established quality targets.
  • Coordinate data collection and reconciliation processes on issues such as month-end and year-end accruals, labour, position control, and analysis.
Pension Plan Administration
  • Prepare and/or participate in government filings, plan audits, and development of plan communications.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local requirements, maintain and process pension administration forms, and support the Manager, Compensation, Pension & Benefits.
  • Provide analysis and reporting on various aspects of pension plans, ensure timely and accurate remittance of invoices, and educate and counsel employees on retirement planning.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary education in human resources, commerce, business administration, or a related program.
  • Experience in payroll and pension administration, strong computer skills, and proficiency in office productivity and collaboration tools.
  • Completion of National Payroll Institute certification program courses considered an asset, experience with financial accounting practices and tax procedures also considered an asset.
  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.
