About the Role

Aviva Canada Inc. is seeking a skilled Commercial Lines Property and Casualty (P&C) Underwriter to join our Small Medium and Enterprise (SME) commercial insurance business unit. As a key member of our Ottawa Branch team, you will be responsible for underwriting new business and servicing a substantial portfolio of commercial P&C accounts.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and Evaluate Risk: Evaluate risk for primarily new and existing business, applying corporate underwriting standards and sharing knowledge and skills with others in the branch.
  • Underwriting and Analysis: Analyze reports to determine adequate exposure and loss rating, maintaining awareness of market trends, pricing levels, and policy form amendments.
  • Loss Control and Risk Management: Utilize loss control and risk management practices in the underwriting process, responding to inquiries from brokers regarding modification to policy files in a prompt and efficient manner.
  • Broker Relationships: Develop and maintain excellent broker relationships and management of assigned broker portfolio, providing excellent customer service.
Requirements
  • 1-3 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience
  • CIP in progress or completed is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and administration skills
  • Highly motivated and enthusiastic
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to meet challenging deadlines and perform effectively under pressure
  • Knowledge of RTM system is an asset
