About This Opportunity

Black & McDonald Limited is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Estimator to join our team in Scarborough, Ontario. As a key member of our estimating department, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed estimates for mechanical construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Estimating and Tendering: Lead a team of estimators in preparing estimates for mechanical construction projects, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
  • Tender Review and Analysis: Review and analyze tenders from suppliers and subcontractors, recommend award decisions, and conduct negotiations.
  • Cost Monitoring and Reporting: Establish and maintain cost monitoring and reporting systems to ensure accurate and timely reporting of project costs.
  • Project Coordination: Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Site Review and Project Closing: Conduct site reviews, tender reviews, and project closings to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Supplier and Contractor Management: Maintain a directory of suppliers and contractors, and ensure their compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Communication and Liaison: Liaise with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors to ensure effective communication and project coordination.
  • Industry Presence and Knowledge: Maintain a strong industry presence to ensure continuity of work and stay up-to-date with new technologies and construction methods.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of a Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience, or a qualified tradesperson in the mechanical field with several years of experience and previous estimating experience.
  • Work Experience: 15-20 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of a $10M value or higher.
  • Skills and Abilities: Advanced knowledge of contract management, construction scheduling, planning, and execution, trade fluency, organization, and time management.
Preferred Qualifications
  • P.Eng. or CET: Professional Engineer or Certified Engineering Technologist designation.
  • Project Management Experience: Experience in project management, including coordination and execution of projects.
