The Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is a leading non-profit organization that empowers Canadians to make a difference in the lives of people affected by cancer.

We are currently seeking an experienced Legal Counsel to join our team. This role will be responsible for reviewing and drafting legal agreements, as well as ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

This is a full-time position that offers a competitive salary range of $76,000 - $114,000 CAD per year, depending on experience.

About the Role

This role will support the General Counsel in reviewing contract templates and legal agreements, as well as engaging in ongoing review, updating, and consolidation of company policies and procedures.

You will also be involved in the review of privacy practices to ensure compliance with new and pending federal and provincial privacy laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, negotiate, and interpret various legal agreements, including master service agreements, sponsorship agreements, gift agreements, funding agreements, IT agreements, and licensing agreements.
  • Maintain and update contract templates, creating new templates based on changing legal and business needs.
  • Anticipate and identify legal issues, consulting with the General Counsel on legal strategies, processes, and solutions to mitigate legal risk.
  • Utilize knowledge of commercial transactions, information technology, intellectual property, administrative, and privacy law to work cross-functionally with all departments within the organization.
Requirements
  • Common Law degree with at least 3-5 years post-call experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.
  • Experience in information technology and privacy law.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Work in the non-profit charity sector would be an asset.
