Job Summary
We're seeking a highly skilled Cloud FinOps Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our financial operations team, you will be responsible for evolving and operationalizing our Cloud FinOps processes, focusing on supporting OTIP RAEO in the billing, chargeback, forecasting, and optimization of cloud services.
Key Responsibilities
- Owning and managing the FinOps process for OTIP RAEO's cloud consumption.
- Co-chairing the cloud operations board.
- Collaborating with the Financial Manager to design and facilitate cost estimations, the master cloud forecast, and track the actual cloud spend against the estimations.
- Generating reports to enable budget analysis and inform the business about deviations from budgets, escalating major cloud budget deviations where applicable.
- Monitoring the cloud usage against budget and forecasting and exploring any trends in cloud spend.
- Analyzing cloud data to identify cost optimization and usage opportunities, creating prioritized optimization recommendations, and tracking progress on these recommendations.
- Providing consumption and cost projections for any new services.
- Partnering across the business and the technical and finance departments in aligning the cloud objectives with financial goals.
- Collaborating with the Finance department in validating and processing cloud invoices.
- Supporting the finance team in creating monthly cloud consumption reporting for leadership.
- Upholding industry regulations and standards in technology cost management.
- Conducting knowledge sessions to improve FinOps literacy across the organization.
- Creating and monitoring cloud cost optimization policies and alerts.
- Contributing to cloud planning activities to provide cloud cost estimates for new initiatives and/or system changes.
- Monitoring and staying current with industry trends and cost savings opportunities within cloud environments, delivering strategic recommendations to ensure maximum cost optimization for the business's cloud infrastructure.
Requirements
We're looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional with a strong background in financial operations, cloud computing, and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Management Information Systems, Finance, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in analyzing data to identify trends and provide cost optimization recommendations.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience in delivering cost analysis and projections, as well as monitoring real-time cloud expenditure to align with the initial estimates.
- Understanding of cloud billing practices and procedures.
- Proven cost management skills with public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and hands-on experience with cloud-based services.
- Ability to provide reports on complex operational matters in a manner that the end business users can understand and act upon.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams with an ability to align priorities across finance and technology.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex issues clearly.
- Ability to think strategically, execute surgically, and prioritize multiple tasks or agendas under pressure.
- Nice to have: FinOps certified.
