Job Summary:

The Link is seeking a dedicated Youth Care Practitioner to provide holistic support to vulnerable youth and young adults in an emergency shelter setting. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for arranging shelter, crisis intervention, youth intake, case planning, and basic needs service provision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide person-centered, non-judgmental, trauma-informed, and strength-based support to youth, focusing on their mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.
  • Work collaboratively with youth to problem-solve and navigate various systems, ensuring their safety, choice, and control.
  • Perform shelter intakes, assessments, and registration duties, providing a seamless transition for youth into our care.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support, utilizing your counseling skills and knowledge of trauma and resilience-informed care.
  • Supervise and provide basic needs and care to youth, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
  • Participate in general facility tasks, cleaning, cooking chores, and routines, maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Collaborate with other team members and external service providers to ensure comprehensive support for youth.

Qualifications:

  • Certificate or diploma in Child & Youth Care or a combination of education, work experience, and lived experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with vulnerable youth, particularly in emergency shelter settings.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and beliefs is an asset.
  • Strong counseling skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to trauma and resilience-informed care.
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C certification.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse and Adult Abuse Registry Checks completed within the last three months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mental Health First Aid and Safe Talk certification.
  • Commit 2 Kids Training.
  • Certification in DLE (The Purposeful Use of Daily Life Events) or TCS (Therapeutic Crisis Solutions).
  • ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) and de-escalation training.
