Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and service-oriented Librarian to fill the Head of Collections Strategy position at the University of Ottawa Library. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and supervising a team responsible for the strategic acquisition, development, management, and evaluation of content in all formats and across all disciplines to support the research, teaching, and administrative needs of the University community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise a team responsible for collections strategy, acquisition, and management.
  • Develop and implement effective collection assessment and evaluation activities to ensure a user-centred, systematic approach.
  • Collaborate with other areas of the Library on issues relating to collections and acquisitions.
  • Manage the Library's collection budget and ensure responsible and efficient expenditure.
  • Act as the lead negotiator with vendors and publishers, and manage consortial collection strategies.
  • Develop and recommend creative solutions through policy changes, resource allocation, and new initiatives.
Requirements
  • A Master's degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience, or fewer if the experience is particularly pertinent to the position.
  • Experience in human resources management and administration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of licensing models, budget management, collection assessment, consortial collection strategies, and collection development practices and trends.
  • Knowledge of the scholarly communications and publishing landscape and its relationship to collections strategy.
  • Ability to communicate on collections issues and strategies with library staff and with the university community to ensure broad engagement and dialogue.
