About Us

The Civic Institute of Professional Personnel (CIPP) is a union that represents Ottawa's municipal public service professionals. We are committed to improving the lives of our members and the community we serve.

We are currently seeking an experienced Union Organizer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for organizing member outreach, engagement, and mobilization activities to increase membership and promote the union's goals.

About the Role

This is a temporary full-time position with a salary range of $100,000 to $122,000 per year, plus benefits. The role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

The ideal candidate will have experience in labor relations, organizing, and communications, as well as a strong understanding of Ontario and Canadian labor movements. They will be able to develop and implement effective organizing strategies, build relationships with members and stakeholders, and contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Organize member outreach, engagement, and mobilization activities to increase membership and promote the union's goals.
  • Implement effective organizing strategies to engage union members and build power for collective bargaining.
  • Build relationships with members, staff, and stakeholders to advance the union's objectives.
  • Develop and implement campaigns to promote the union's message and build support among members and the broader community.
  • Provide training and support to members to develop their leadership skills and participate in organizing activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of member engagement, feedback, and participation to inform future organizing strategies.

Requirements

  • University degree in social sciences, labor relations, or a related discipline.
  • At least one year of experience in labor relations, organizing, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of Ontario and Canadian labor movements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Ability to integrate anti-oppression principles into your work.
  • Familiarity with digital organizing tools and data management.
