Victim Support Specialist

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Victim Services Caseworker to join our team at the Regional District of Central Okanagan. As a key member of our Protective Services team, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support, practical assistance, and information to victims and witnesses of crime and/or trauma.
Key Responsibilities:- Respond to crisis situations and provide immediate support to victims and witnesses.
- Liaise with law enforcement agencies, social services, and other stakeholders to ensure victims receive the necessary support and resources.
- Assist victims in navigating the criminal justice system, including providing information on court processes, court orientation, and court outcomes.
- Conduct safety and suicide risk assessments, and develop safety plans to ensure the well-being of victims.
- Provide critical incident debriefings to groups and individuals impacted by traumatic events.
- Assist victims with accessing social services, including housing, income assistance, and other relevant referrals.
- Maintain accurate records and administrative duties, including data collection and reporting.
- Promote Victim Services through community involvement, including participation in committees, focus groups, and educational events.
- Degree in a related field, such as social work, counseling, or psychology.
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with victims of crime or trauma.
- Working knowledge of social services resources and issues, including grief support, trauma reactions, mental illness, abuse, and suicide intervention.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to respond to situations with tact and discretion.
- Ability to meet and maintain RCMP Security Clearance and have a valid BC Driver's Licence with a record of safe driving.
- A competitive hourly rate of $40.58.
