About the Role:

The Health Care Aide is a vital member of the healthcare team, providing support to adults and seniors in a family-centered care environment within a busy tertiary emergency department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personal assistance, including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with patients, families, and caregivers to provide a continuum of care in home, community, or healthcare facilities.
  • Assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs.
  • Participate in organized activities or programs and observe and report on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, and maintain effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory.
  • Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory.
  • Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum, and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program, or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • One year experience as a HCA.
  • English language comprehension, both oral and written.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands associated with the job, including pushing stretchers, carts, wheelchairs, and bending, and reaching.
  • Completion of Medical Terminology required.
  • Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
  • Self-motivated individual able to prioritize and organize workload, in a busy patient care environment.
