Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Head of Finance to lead our finance team in Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical accounting support, overseeing financial reporting, and delivering strategic business support.
Key Responsibilities:- Financial Close and Reporting: Oversee the financial close and reporting process for our Canadian branches, including managing both onshore and offshore teams to complete P&C returns for OSFI and ancillary regulatory filings.
- Capital Optimization: Optimize the branches' capital position to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance: Work with cross-functional departments and external consultants to meet regulatory deadlines and communicate financial results and regulatory updates to senior management and branch board committees.
- Relationship Management: Lead relationship with OSFI and other local regulators on finance and branch-related matters.
- Accounting Research: Perform independent accounting standard and regulatory guideline research and write memos to document the branches' position.
- Audit Support: Act as primary point of contact for internal and external audits of Canadian branches.
- Business Partnership: Serve as a business partner and liaison on all finance matters to the chief agent and chief underwriting officers.
- Strategy and Planning: Participate in planning and strategy related to Canadian branches.
- Tax and Actuarial Support: Coordinate with tax consultants to facilitate periodic tax provisions and direct/indirect tax filings, and liaise with actuarial consultant to complete financial condition testing and appointed actuary report on loss reserves.
- Financial Reporting: Manage financial reporting for a service company and Lloyd's cover holder.
- Process Design: Design and execute processes and internal controls.
- Ancillary Finance: Handle ancillary finance responsibilities related to budgeting and expense management.
- Team Development: Develop and coach internal team members through complex concepts and processes.
You will report to the Head of Americas Finance, IFRS/Statutory Legal Entity Reporting. You will interact with AXA XL Divisional Finance, Legal, Tax, Compliance, Actuarial, ERM, and Treasury Teams on various matters. External interactions will include external auditors, tax consultants, appointed actuaries, and local regulators.
Requirements:We're looking for someone who has:
- A qualified accountant (CA, CPA or equivalent) with at least ten years post-qualification experience in the property and casualty (re)insurance industry.
- Outstanding knowledge of the IFRS 17 accounting standard and the OSFI regulatory environment for P&C (re)insurance companies.
- Extensive (re)insurance product knowledge and expertise preferably obtained through working experience in the industry.
- Advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Suite of products.
- Working knowledge and experience with Oracle, Hyperion, and Anaplan.
- Ability to navigate a matrix organization and balance multiple priorities.
- Outstanding analytical and report writing skills, as well as solid organizational and communication skills.
