About the Role

The Configuration Management Lead will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and configuration of data across all systems in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tool. This position requires a high level of exposure to diverse stakeholders and close collaboration with production and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supports Configuration Management Planning: Develop and implement configuration management plans in line with International Standards (EIA-649C) and VSY Configuration & Data Management Plan.
  • Leadership and Management: Provide leadership and management of CM team members, assigning tasks, performance goals, and prioritizing workloads.
  • Resource Planning: Support manager in assessing team resource requirements and headcount planning.
  • Onboarding and Training: Manage onboarding of new team members and ensure completion of assigned safety protocols and adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Documentation Control: Control project technical and non-technical documentation through the creation of Configured Baselines and support maintenance of Projects' Master Product Lists (MPL).
  • Configuration Deficiency Identification: Identify configuration deficiencies relative to the project phase and coordinate their resolution with stakeholders.
  • Point of Contact: Act as a point of contact for allocating tasks and liaise with external customers and production departments to resolve issues.
  • Configuration Supervision: Supervise part and document configuration throughout the entire design, build, and test lifecycle.
  • DTO/BTS Support: Support DTO/BTS with identification and prioritization of User Enhancement Requests and support associated User Acceptance Tests (as required).
  • Configuration Status Accounting: Supervise the creation and maintenance of various Configuration Status Accounting metrics and associated reports.
  • Bill of Material Review: Review the use of the Bill of Material within the PLM tool, identify deficiencies relative to the project phase, and coordinate completion.
  • Enterprise Change Requests: Supervise the creation and lifecycle of Enterprise Change Requests & Notifications (ECR/ECNs) in the PLM tool after change approval.
  • Stop Work Process: Supervise the Stop Work process, preventing rework in production and procurement.
  • Configuration Management Audits: Conduct regular Configuration Management Audits.
  • Concept Development: Contribute to the development and implementation of new concepts and techniques.
  • Training and Development: Support training for external and internal users on PLM tools.
  • Additional Duties: Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
  • Education: Diploma or Technical certification in a relevant subject area.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years of experience working with large data sets in a manufacturing firm (shipbuilding industry preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Coaching and Supervision: Experience with coaching and supervising people.
  • Certification: Certification in Configuration Management or Project Management, desirable.
  • Registration: Registration as an EIT with EGBC is an asset.
  • Shipbuilding Operations: Comprehensive understanding of shipbuilding operations and relationship between planning, procurement, design, production, and project management office.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Expert knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management tools (ARAS preferred).
  • Configuration Standard Methodologies: Detailed knowledge of configuration standard methodologies (EIA-649 Configuration Management and ISO).
  • Procedure Development: Understanding of creating and implementing procedures to correct and maintain data.
  • Technical Skills: Technical skills with capability to read and interpret shipbuilding technical drawings.
  • Communication: Good communication skills across diverse partners, both written and verbal.
  • Attention to Detail: Ability to process detailed information consistently.
  • Judgment and Reasoning: Ability to exercise good judgment and reasoning skills.
  • Schedules: Understanding of schedules generated by independent planning systems. Ability to work with limited direction and to function as a key team member.
  • Time Management: Time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks from various customers.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal skills including analytical, problem-solving, and issue resolution.
  • Customer Service: Customer service and organizational skills.
  • Software Skills: Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and awareness of process mapping tools.
