The Configuration Management Lead plays a crucial role in the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system, ensuring the integrity, uniformity, and configuration of data across various platforms. This role involves significant interaction with a wide range of stakeholders and requires close collaboration with both production and engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitates Configuration Management strategies in accordance with International Standards (EIA-649C) and the company’s Configuration & Data Management Plan.
  • Provides guidance and oversight to Configuration Management team members, assigning responsibilities, setting performance objectives, and managing workload priorities.
  • Assists management in evaluating team resource needs and planning for headcount.
  • Oversees the onboarding process for new team members, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and adherence to organizational policies.
  • Manages technical and non-technical project documentation through the establishment of Configured Baselines and supports the upkeep of Master Product Lists (MPL).
  • Identifies configuration issues relative to project phases and coordinates resolutions with relevant stakeholders.
  • Serves as a liaison for task allocation and collaborates with external clients and production teams to address challenges.
  • Supervises part and document configuration throughout the entire design, construction, and testing phases.
  • Aids in the identification and prioritization of User Enhancement Requests and supports User Acceptance Testing as necessary.
  • Oversees the generation and maintenance of various Configuration Status Accounting metrics and related reports.
  • Reviews the Bill of Material usage within the PLM system, identifies discrepancies based on project phases, and ensures resolution.
  • Manages the lifecycle of Enterprise Change Requests & Notifications (ECR/ECNs) in the PLM system post-approval.
  • Supervises the Stop Work process to mitigate rework in production and procurement.
  • Conducts regular audits of Configuration Management practices.
  • Contributes to the formulation and execution of innovative concepts and methodologies.
  • Facilitates training for both internal and external users on PLM tools.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Technical certification in a relevant field.
  • At least 6 years of experience working with large datasets in a manufacturing environment (preferably in shipbuilding) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in coaching and supervising personnel.
  • Certification in Configuration Management or Project Management is desirable.
  • Registration as an EIT with EGBC is an asset.
  • Comprehensive understanding of shipbuilding operations and the interplay between planning, procurement, design, production, and project management.
  • Expert knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management tools (preferably ARAS).
  • In-depth knowledge of configuration best practices (EIA-649 Configuration Management and ISO standards).
  • Proficient in creating and implementing procedures to maintain data integrity.
  • Technical aptitude to read and interpret shipbuilding technical drawings.
  • Strong communication skills across diverse teams, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to consistently process detailed information.
  • Capable of exercising sound judgment and reasoning skills.
  • Understanding of schedules produced by independent planning systems and ability to work with minimal supervision as a key team member.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks from various stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including analytical, problem-solving, and issue resolution capabilities.
  • Customer service-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with familiarity in process mapping tools.
