Job DescriptionA Care Specialist plays a vital role in facilitating the interaction between an individual who is Deafblind and their environment. The successful candidate will act as a communicator and sighted guide, providing one-on-one service and support in various settings.
- Provide personalized assistance and support to individuals who are Deafblind in their daily lives.
- Facilitate access to information, enabling individuals to gather knowledge, learn concepts, and make informed decisions.
- Offer sighted guidance and environmental information to enhance the individual's independence and mobility.
- Collaborate with the client to determine their level of support and develop a tailored plan to meet their needs.
- Empower individuals to actively participate in their communities, fostering social connections and a sense of belonging.
To succeed in this role, you will require:
- Knowledge of theories and principles related to intervention, including Deafblindness, Deaf/Deafblind culture, and common health-related concerns.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with clients and stakeholders.
- Self-motivation, flexibility, and the capacity to multitask in a dynamic environment.
- The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative when needed.
- Related education or experience in the human services field, preferably working with Deafblind populations.
- Proficiency in alternate formats of communication, such as Two-Hand Manual, American Sign Language, and willingness to learn Braille.
- Experience working with diverse client populations and proficiency in assistive technology.
- Ability to travel and work flexible hours.
