Lead Fluid Biomarker Research Director

Join The University of British Columbia as a Lead Fluid Biomarker Research Director, and contribute to our research endeavors in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. This full-time position comes with an estimated salary range of $104,857 USD per annum.
Job OverviewWe are seeking an experienced leader to oversee our fluid biomarker research program at the UBC Core Facility for Neurology Biomarker Innovation. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing strategic oversight and management in all areas of core facility development and administration.
In this role, you will develop and optimize our business model to better serve the academic community and increase revenue generation from external collaborations. You will also lead the overall strategic direction and development of our fluid biomarker research program, including the design, implementation, evaluation, and management of the research projects.
Your expertise in fluid biomarker research will enable you to provide high-level leadership for all research projects and operational leadership for all research conducted within the CFNBI. You will build strategic partnerships with academic clinicians and clinician-scientists, industry, and provincial and federal government partners.
Key Responsibilities- Develops and optimizes the CFNBI's business model to better serve the academic community and increase revenue generation from external collaborations;
- Leads the overall strategic direction and development, design, implementation, evaluation, and management of the fluid biomarker research program;
- Provides leadership for all research projects conducted by the CFNBI, of which there are currently more than 20 active projects;
- Develops project proposals in partnership with collaborators;
- Manages and supervises all staff and trainees working within the facility;
- Develops relationships with granting agencies, local, national, and international academic and clinical collaborators, and government stakeholders;
- Leads and provides operational oversight of the CFNBI with responsibility for associated human resources functions such as staffing plans, recruitment, performance evaluation, and management;
- Provides direction in all areas of financial management related to research projects and grant applications;
- Manages collaborations between local, national, and international collaborators and stakeholders regarding the development of grant applications and collaborative research agreements;
- Oversees research ethics submissions and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements;
- Oversees production of data analytics and ensures alignment with federal data privacy and security standards;
- Oversees production of research reports and research publications;

RequirementsTo be successful in this role, you will need:
- A post-graduate degree or an equivalent professional designation with a minimum of five years of related experience; alternatively, an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of seven years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
- Specialist expertise in fluid biomarker research and a demonstrated ability to provide leadership for all research projects and managerial and operational requirements for a wide range of complex research collaborations and projects;
- Experience in method development, research, facility management, ethical, and other legal and regulatory requirements;
- Experience supervising projects and team members;
- Exceptional professional demeanor in telephone and email correspondence;
- Strong background knowledge of fluid biomarker analytical technology and troubleshooting;
- Experience working with biological specimens;
- Experience maintaining inventories, especially regarding biobanking;
- Knowledge of accreditation and regulatory processes in laboratory medicine;
- Strong critical thinking skills;
- The ability to independently organize workload and take responsibility in making progress with minimal to no direct supervision;
