About the Role

The Molecular Pathology Scientist position at Vancouver Coastal Health is a key role in our Division of Anatomical Pathology. Reporting to the Medical Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting advanced molecular analyses to aid in the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic decision-making for various diseases, with a focus on cancer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and interpret complex molecular tests, with a focus on genomic techniques.
  • Analyze and interpret molecular data to identify genetic mutations, alterations, and biomarkers relevant to patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Triage, review, and interpret molecular assay results, with reporting to the Medical Director of the Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
  • Supervise all molecular diagnostic assays in the laboratory.
  • Develop and validate new assays, monitor existing assay protocols, and ensure laboratory accreditation through administrative activities.
  • Participate in laboratory quality assurance programs to maintain high standards of diagnostic accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with researchers on studies related to molecular pathology and contribute to scientific publications and presentations.

Requirements

  • PhD degree in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field is required.
  • Clinical appointment at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (or eligibility for the same) may be applicable.
  • Three (3) years' recent, related experience in a clinical molecular pathology laboratory, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
