About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to lead our research team in investigating COVID-19.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, implement and oversee research protocols in consultation with Investigators
  • Perform and interpret epidemiological analyses
  • Day-to-day coordination of research studies
  • Develop materials related to research projects
  • Review and synthesize literature relevant to research project
  • Liaise with project collaborators and partners; identifying synergies in interests and creating opportunities for collaboration
  • Lead/support strategic planning and goal setting for the research team
  • Monitor research fund expenditures and assist in budget determinations
  • Initiate/support grant proposal writing efforts – identifying appropriate funding opportunities and providing subject matter expertise
  • Develop related research reports and manuscripts for publication and presentation at meetings and conferences
  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to undergraduate students, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows/associates
  • Perform other related duties
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A post-graduate degree or equivalent professional designation with a minimum of four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own
  • Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one's own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications

The following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Graduate degree in public health is required, and a PhD in a relevant field of study is preferred. Minimum of four years' experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have thorough knowledge of epidemiological principles, research methodologies, health surveillance, health indicator development. Experience with research and statistical analyses is required
  • Experience in COVID-19, HIV, vaccine effectiveness or mental health research is an asset
  • Must be experienced and knowledgeable in the management of a research team and have been responsible for data analyses, writing of manuscripts, preparation of figures, and publication of data
  • Must work well in interdisciplinary teams, and with a broad range of stakeholders
  • Must have advanced writing skills, excellent attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Must have good time management skills and the ability to work independently and efficiently with a high degree of accuracy
  • Must have good interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, be adaptable to a changing work environment, be energetic and have a strong work ethic
  • Experience with large administrative and/or clinical datasets an asset; proficiency with statistical software is required

This position offers a competitive salary range of $67,475 - $97,014 CAD per month, depending on qualifications and experience.
