Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Instrumentation and Control Systems Engineer to join our team at BWX Technologies. As a key member of our Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group, you will be responsible for supporting the technical direction of our projects and providing technical interfacing to both internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare detailed technical documents, including elementary drawings, electrical assembly drawings, single line diagrams, and equipment specifications, in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Liaise with personnel from various customer groups, including design, operations, and maintenance, to gather site-specific design information.
  • Execute walk-downs of various equipment in the plant and prepare technical data for presentation to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable company, technical, and regulatory standards.
  • Participate in design reviews and customer review meetings, providing stakeholder and design input.
  • Test execution and commissioning of complex equipment and systems.
  • Review selection of components and equipment, including motors, cables, relays, junction boxes, and valves.
  • Adhere to on-time and on-budget criteria associated with project commitments and customer success.
  • Support the development and estimating of engineering proposals.
  • Ensure that design supports manufacturability and complies with requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Electrical/Instrumentation & Control/Automation or related discipline Engineering.
  • Holds or working towards a current Professional Engineer (PEO) license.
  • Typically requires 3 years' experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, Oil and Gas, Mining, or other highly regulated and process-based design.
  • Demonstrated ability to support leadership on engineering projects over their complete EPC life cycles with little support.
  • Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments, including mechanical, software design, systems engineering, and manufacturing.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, developing leadership skills, and the ability to work in a team.
Desired Characteristics
  • Experience with IBM DOORS.
  • Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.
  • Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.
  • General understanding of Engineering Change Control (ECC) concepts for the nuclear industry or other industries.
  • Ability to interface with project team members, vendors, and customers to ensure scope and requirements of the project are understood.
  • Ability to work on scheduled tasks independently and interface with other team members with varying functions.
