Job SummaryThe incumbent is responsible for ensuring the safe use of equipment and facilities within the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering. This includes providing guidance and advice to staff, faculty, and students on laboratory safety procedures, chemical handling, and equipment operation.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical support and guidance to staff, faculty, and students on laboratory safety procedures and equipment operation.
- Ensure compliance with departmental safety procedures and University policies.
- Monitor and advise on potentially dangerous equipment operation or conditions.
- Assist with the maintenance of research equipment and facilities.
- Provide input on the development of standard operating procedures and quality control programs.
- 3-year diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Chemical Engineering Technology, or related program.
- 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Well-developed interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse individuals.
- Knowledge of good laboratory practices, chemical handling, and electrical and electronics concepts.
- Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team.
The incumbent will work in areas where toxic, flammable, explosive, carcinogenic chemical and biohazardous materials are utilized and stored. They will also work with/handle chemicals and bottled gases, and maintain delicate and expensive laboratory equipment.
