Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Healthcare Bed Coordinator to join our Patient Access team at Mackenzie Health. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for coordinating bed allocation, patient registration, and admissions/discharge processes to ensure efficient and safe patient care.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate bed allocation based on clinical need and patient preferences
  • Manage patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and track all patient movements
  • Monitor and report bed census on a continuous basis
  • Interview patients, enter accurate registration information into electronic medical records (EMRs)
  • Educate patients on fees associated with visits, obtain signatures and credit card information for electronic billing consent
  • Review accommodation census reports to ensure patients are allocated to appropriate beds
  • Coordinate direct admissions with patients and sending/receiving physicians
  • Communicate bed shortages/shortage planning concerns with Manager/PCC, Patient Flow, and Shift Managers
  • Attend bed meetings during day shifts
  • Provide training and orientation to new staff members

Requirements:

  • Medical terminology certificate required or completion within 3 months of hire
  • Graduate of a Medical Office Administration Program or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of one year of Bed Allocation/Bed Management experience or two years of registration/admitting experience in a hospital setting
  • Health Information Certified Associate (HICA) designation required or commitment to complete within six months from date of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working in a Patient Access Representative role
  • Ability to speak a second language

Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated annual salary for this position is $65,000 - $85,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Mackenzie Health offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a generous retirement plan.
