Job Purpose:

As a key member of the Scotiabank team, the Director of Data Management will lead and oversee Non-Retail Credit Risk audits in Canada and internationally. This role will ensure that business strategies, plans, and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Key Accountabilities:
  1. Drive a client-focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
  2. Act as Audit Principal or Officer in Charge (OIC) for assigned projects, processes, and units, ensuring Scotiabank standards and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) Code of Ethics are maintained.
  3. Collaborate with business lines, product groups, and risk management functions to provide advice and counsel in the design of internal controls.
  4. Develop and execute a comprehensive and strategic audit plan, ensuring auditable entities remain within cycle.
  5. Conduct ongoing monitoring activities to stay abreast of changes, emerging risks, and themes that may impact the risk assessment of the audit universe.
  6. Oversee the execution, planning, and reporting on assigned audit projects, prioritizing activities and exercising problem-solving skills in a timely manner.
  7. Define and lead the end-to-end process of the execution of the audit, ensuring the nature and extent of testing is appropriate to support the objective, scope, and overall opinion.
  8. Ensure audit results are gathered, determine the root cause of the problem, and report accordingly, confirming the audit results with the auditee.
  9. Prepare and/or review audit review findings for presentation to management, monitoring and following-up for corrective action/progress against any reported issues.
  10. Ensure audit reports are written to a consistent high standard and are finalized within established department metrics.
Education/Work Experience:
  1. University/Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, or equivalent, with relevant audit or business certifications.
  2. Accounting designation or other technical/professional designation (e.g., CPA/CFA) as an asset.
  3. Minimum of 10 years of Banking and/or Credit Risk Management experience, with Commercial Banking/Credit experience preferred.
