About the Role

Ciena Canada, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Optical System Designer to join our team. As an Optical System Designer, you will be responsible for designing and testing optical systems, working with cross-functional teams to resolve issues, and collaborating with stakeholders to drive product development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and test optical systems, including end-to-end testing of new software and hardware features
  • Work with the relevant teams to resolve issues and implement fixes
  • Generate and execute test plans, and report on progress
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to drive product development and customer interaction

Requirements

  • Masters degree in an electrical engineering or physics discipline with a specific interest in optics, photonics & telecommunications
  • Familiarity with the principles of fiber optic communication systems and optical components
  • Understanding of optical propagation & impairments
  • Knowledge of the principles of control loops is an asset
  • Experience with optical lab test equipment and measurement techniques
  • Experience with modeling tools e.g. Matlab would be an asset
