Job Title: Coherent Optical Systems Engineer

At Infinera, we are pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the field of optical communications. We are seeking a highly skilled Coherent Optical Systems Engineer to join our Optical Systems Group (OSG) and contribute to the design, characterization, and development of leading coherent optical transceivers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop next-generation coherent optical transceivers based on Infinera's cutting-edge photonic integrated circuit (PIC) and digital signal processor (DSP) technologies.
  • Perform digital-optical integration, develop robust calibration and controls methodologies, and carry out performance characterization of coherent pluggable transceivers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, electronics, optics, and test, to ensure seamless integration and optimal system performance.
  • Develop and maintain a deep understanding of optical communication systems, DWDM transmission systems, fiber transmission penalties, photonic integrated components, electronic circuits, and signal analysis and processing.
Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Applied Physics with experience in optical communications, photonics, high-speed electronics, or systems.
  • Fundamental understanding of coherent communications systems, including experience with QPSK, 16QAM, and 64QAM, as well as coding and forward error correction algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience working with system-level optical communication hardware and components, including high-speed RF and mm-wave interconnects, amplifiers, and components.
  • Programming experience in Matlab, Python, VB.net, or C is highly desirable.
