Job Title: Commercial Lines Underwriter

We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Lines Underwriter to join our team at 570 The Dominion of Canada General. As a key member of our Business Insurance group, you will be responsible for underwriting and marketing a diverse portfolio of risks covering mid-sized businesses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Develop, foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting with brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Effectively develop and execute sales plans to ensure retention and new business targets are met.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Three to five years of relevant insurance or underwriting experience
  • Knowledge of property/casualty insurance products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market
  • Relevant experience interacting with brokers
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) or other insurance-related designation
  • Strong financial acumen, including the ability to analyze financial statements and client's loss history
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite
