Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health Position

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health to join our team at the Department of Health and Wellness. As a key member of our Public Health branch, you will play a critical role in supporting the Chief Medical Officer of Health in promoting and protecting the health of Nova Scotians.
Primary Accountabilities- Provide leadership and strategic direction to the health protection, medical epidemiology, and data stewardship functions of the Department of Health and Wellness and the Nova Scotia Health Public Health branch.
- Collaborate with departmental and provincial leaders to develop and implement health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.
- Represent Nova Scotia at provincial, regional, and national meetings, committees, and conferences to advance public health interests.
- Contribute to research and knowledge translation on public health issues relevant to Nova Scotia and participate in the teaching and training of current and future public health practitioners.
To be successful in this role, you must have a medical license from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia and a Public Health and Preventive Medicine fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent training). A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership position in public health is required.
