Job Description

As a Deputy Director at Employment and Social Development Canada, you will play a critical role in shaping the direction and success of the organization. This senior executive position requires a combination of strategic vision, leadership skills, and operational expertise.

Key Responsibilities
  • Setting and executing the strategic direction in alignment with the organization's overall mandate goals
  • Developing strategies, priorities, plans, and mobilizing personnel to implement tactical, strategic, and operational policy plans and processes
  • Implementing a risk-based approach to tailor strategy and tactical responses to fit assessed risks
  • Leading or participating in cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive innovation and growth
  • Identifying potential risks and developing strategies to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards
Requirements
  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • Significant experience in providing strategic advice and recommendations to senior officials on sensitive and complex policy and program issues
  • Significant experience in setting strategic direction and providing leadership in operational service delivery or development of policies and programs
  • Significant experience in building and managing partnerships, and in consulting and negotiating with other levels of government, industry, and national or international organizations
  • Significant experience at the executive level in the management of human and financial resources
Preferred Qualifications
  • Senior-level experience in the banking industry
  • Experience at a senior level in risk management, finance, or in a regulatory environment
  • Experience in working and liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including security and intelligence agencies
  • Experience in leading the development and analysis of complex cross-cutting social, economic, or security policies and programs
  • Experience as an executive providing leadership and executive oversight for large-scale business transformation or change management initiatives
Selection Criteria

Candidates' qualifications may be assessed via a variety of evaluation tools and methods, including standardized tests, self-assessments, simulations, interviews, reference checks, written exams, and past performance agreements.

Top-down selection may be used during any stage of the selection process.

Language Requirements

Bilingual - Imperative (CBC/CBC)

This means that a person whose first official language is French must possess the CBC level in English and a person whose first official language is English must possess the CBC level in French.
