Chief Curator and Exhibition Manager

The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team as a Chief Curator and Exhibition Manager. In this key role, you will be responsible for overseeing the functions and resources of the curatorial and preparation departments, ensuring the successful delivery of temporary exhibitions, permanent collection rotations, and other projects.
Responsibilities- Maintain and update the overall exhibitions schedule and individual project timetables, working closely with the Chief Curator and other departments.
- Act as liaison between the exhibitions and finance departments, ensuring effective budget management and administration.
- Lead cross-departmental dialogue throughout each phase of the installation and de-installation process, ensuring seamless coordination and execution.
- Oversee contracts and agreements for exhibitions, managing relationships with touring exhibitions developed in-house and on loan to the gallery.
- Manage curatorial and preparation staff, providing clear communication and direction to ensure high-quality work.
- Generate and evaluate exhibitions-related contracts and agreements, ensuring compliance with gallery policies and procedures.
- Compile information needed for exhibition marketing materials, showcasing the gallery's events and activities to a wider audience.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to work closely with internal stakeholders, including collections and registration teams, as well as external partners and exhibiting artists. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining partnerships with these groups, ensuring the gallery's exhibitions are engaging, relevant, and accessible to diverse audiences.
RequirementsTo succeed in this position, you will require a University degree in a relevant discipline, such as art history, museum studies, or a related field. You will also need several years of experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality exhibitions and events. Your skills and qualifications should include:
- Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team of specialists.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including artists, curators, and community members.
- Experience in human resource and financial management, with the ability to manage budgets and prioritize resources effectively.
- A proven ability to develop and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring successful collaborations and outcomes.

This role offers an attractive salary range of $83,295 - $105,741 per year, based on education and experience.
