Position Title: Project Management Specialist at Commonwealth of Virginia

Role Overview:


The Commonwealth of Virginia is in search of a skilled Project Management Specialist to support the organization in attaining Tier 2 operational authority in both Information Technology (IT) and Procurement.

The focus is on enhancing the educational pathways for students aiming for transfer to prestigious institutions.


The Project Management Specialist will work closely with the project team on legislative matters, documentation, scheduling of meetings, coordination of activities, conducting research, and generating progress reports.

This role is crucial in ensuring timely completion of tasks and facilitating the achievement of Tier 2 status in IT and procurement.

Reporting Line: Directly reports to the Director of IT and Information Security Officer.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with SCHEV guidelines and Virginia Codes related to Higher Education Tier requirements.
  • Proven experience in project management and strategic development leadership.
  • Basic understanding of IT principles and procurement regulations.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead a project team effectively.
Additional Qualifications:

  • Insight into higher education operations and Virginia state governance.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Knowledge of VITA and the Virginia Higher Education Tier 2 process.
