Job Title: Peer Support Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals living with mental illness, addiction, and homelessness in the Downtown Eastside community.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to provide peer-specific support and guidance to clients. You will assist clients in accessing health and social services, accompany them to appointments, and provide education on consumer rights and grievance procedures. Your lived experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping clients navigate the healthcare system and achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, providing consistent and proactive engagement
  • Assist clients in accessing health and social services, including scheduling appointments and follow-up care
  • Liaise with the research team to improve clinical follow-up and client engagement
  • Provide education and support to clients on consumer rights and grievance procedures
  • Participate in care planning, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to identify client goals and develop care plans
Requirements:
  • Recent experience working in mental health, addiction, and homelessness services
  • Completion of a peer support training program
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a transdisciplinary team
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
