About the Role

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Peer Support Worker to join our interdisciplinary care team. As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide non-clinical, peer-based services to patients/clients, sharing your lived experience to support their health care journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to provide peer support services.
  • Assist patients/clients in exploring skill building, community integration, and natural support development.
  • Promote empowerment, self-determination, and independence through peer mentorship and emotional support.
  • Deliver peer information sessions and support recovery groups.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Certificate in a Social Services program and completion of a recognized Peer Support Training program.
  • Two years recent experience in a peer support role or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Lived experience with recovery from addiction and/or mental illness.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
