Job Summary

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Peer Support Worker to join the Suicide Prevention and Addictions Team at Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver, BC.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide non-clinical, peer-based services to patients/clients in accordance with established care plans.
  • Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary team members to support patient/client recovery.
  • Assist with providing individual peer support, peer-based recovery groups, and peer information sessions.
  • Support patient/client empowerment, self-determination, and independence through peer mentorship and emotional support.
  • Assist patients/clients in exploration of skill building, community integration, and development of natural supports in their community.
Qualifications
  • Certificate in a Social Services program and successful completion of a recognized Peer Support Training program.
  • Two (2) years recent related experience in a peer support role or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Lived experience with recovery from addiction and/or mental illness and as a recipient of mental health and addiction services.
