Mass Spectrometry Specialist

At PHSA, we are seeking a highly skilled Mass Spectrometry Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory, you will be responsible for leading mass spectrometry assay development projects and modifying existing assays. Your expertise in data interpretation, troubleshooting, and optimization of sample preparation and experimental design will be invaluable to our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mass spectrometry assay development projects and modify existing assays
  • Develop and optimize method parameters, compound-optimization experiments, and chromatographic condition selection
  • Source and choose appropriate reagents for assay development
  • Research and develop novel mass spectrometric methods
  • Stay up-to-date with new technologies for sample preparation and analysis
  • Design, direct, perform, analyze, and interpret a wide range of experiments independently
  • Perform experimental method validation following appropriate guidelines

Requirements

  • PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Sciences, Toxicology, or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience working with Mass Spectrometry, Gas Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography, and varied sample preparation procedures in a forensically accredited laboratory
  • Knowledge of programming languages (Python, R, Visual Basic) and familiarity with ISO 15189 or 17025
  • Ability to evaluate experimental results and provide direction to personnel
  • Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments
