About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate Counsel to join our team as an Assistant Vice-President. This is an exciting opportunity for a business-minded lawyer to work with a highly collaborative corporate legal team and contribute to the delivery of first-class legal advice and support to the Aviva Canada business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Legal Advice: Deliver high-quality legal advice and support to the Aviva Canada business, ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Manage Projects: Manage projects, negotiations, and relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management and executives.
  • Identify and Mitigate Risks: Identify and mitigate legal risks, and provide recommendations to partners and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Team: Work collaboratively with the corporate legal team to achieve business objectives and deliver results.
Requirements
  • Call to a Provincial Canadian Bar: Hold a current license to practice law in a Canadian province.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of post-qualifying in-house and/or law firm experience.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Demonstrated strong knowledge and experience in Canadian corporate and commercial law, with a focus on insurance and/or working with large financial institutions.
  • Communication Skills: Proven ability to communicate effectively with senior management and executives, and to convey complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
