Respiratory Care Nurse

Job Summary:
As a Registered Practical Nurse in our Respirology Department, you will be accountable for delivering quality patient-focused care to those with less complex health needs. Your role will involve working collaboratively with our inter-professional healthcare team to provide safe and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care using a safe and effective nursing process.
- Provide professional patient-centred care to ensure patient safety and well-being.
- Practice within a diverse cultural environment, providing care that is compassionate and caring.
- Implement infection control and prevention measures to maintain a safe environment.
- Respond to emergency situations, recognizing changes in patient health status and consulting appropriately.
- Provide health education to patients and families, including thorough discharge instructions to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications:
- Recent experience in acute medicine or respirology, with a minimum of two years preferred.
- Experience working with geriatric patients preferred.
- Knowledge of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diseases inhaler and nebulizer therapy.
- Experience in care of patients with TPN, NG tubes, chest tubes, tracheostomy, wound care, enteral feeds, IV therapy, blood collection, and isolation preferred.
Core Competencies:
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Sound knowledge of the nursing process, theory, and responsibilities to the nursing profession.
- BCLS required.
- Medication Administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005.
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional team.
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient and family-centred care.
- Demonstrated experience with patient and family health teaching.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrated excellent customer service, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a stressful environment.
- Exemplary clinical practice within an inter-professional team to develop appropriate strategies for patient care.
- Ability to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisions.
- Excellent physical assessment skills.
- Ability to promote a healthy work environment and practice excellent client safety guidelines.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Must demonstrate Osler Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation, and Collaboration.
- May be required to travel and work between all Osler sites.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and work record.
