Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Technologist II to join our team in the Core Lab at Eagle Ridge Hospital. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, including routine and additional procedures, to ensure accurate and timely results.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and additional laboratory tests and procedures, following established departmental procedures.
- Collect and process specimens from inpatients and outpatients as required.
- Perform maintenance on related equipment and report any malfunctions to the Section Head.
- Compile statistics and perform clerical tasks associated with laboratory procedures.
- Ensure quality control standards are met and report any issues to the Section Head.
- Maintain a safe and tidy working environment.
- Assist with the orientation of new staff members.
Requirements
- Graduate of a recognized school of Medical Technology, plus a minimum of one year's recent, related experience.
- Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) certification.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to organize workload assignments and set priorities.
- Ability to develop and present educational material.
- Ability to operate related equipment.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada, as per the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
- Knowledge of social, economic, political, and historical realities impacting Indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
