Job Description

Lumentum is seeking a highly skilled Reliability Engineer to join our team in Ottawa. As a key member of our product development team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and durability of our leading-edge optical and photonic telecommunication products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement product qualification and reliability testing strategies.
  • Design and oversee qualification and reliability testing on raw materials, sub-components, and finished products.
  • Analyze data and report on findings, identifying areas for improvement and opportunities to enhance product reliability.
  • Monitor and report on the field reliability of deployed products, comparing with predictions and identifying trends.
  • Perform reliability risk assessments for quality excursions, applying physics of failure and acceleration modeling techniques.
  • Work with external labs to coordinate and perform third-party testing, including NEBs, EMI/EMC, Electrical Safety, and LASER Safety.
Requirements
  • Strong understanding of statistics and data analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a highly technical and multi-project environment.
  • Graduation from a BSc. or MSc. program in electrical engineering, optical engineering, physics, or related field.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a reliability, product qualification, failure analysis, design engineering, process engineering, or compliance function.
  • Knowledge of electronics, optics, and optical communication systems.
  • Knowledge of electronic and optical manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of electrical and optical components, including ICs, FPGAs, Interconnects, LASERs, Optical Detectors, Switches, WSS, MEMs, LCOS, etc.
  • Familiarity with optical and electrical measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of IEC, JEDEC, and Telcordia Qualification Standards.
  • ASQ CRE, Six Sigma certification.
  • Knowledge of Weibull++, BlockSim, Jump software.
