Job Summary

The Preventionist will support managers and workers in the workplace by identifying, correcting, and controlling environmental risks. This will involve conducting audits, investigations, accident analyses, and risk assessments, as well as communicating the results to key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and participate in workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures.
  • Conduct OHS audits in the distribution center to ensure compliance with regulations and company policies.
  • Evaluate risks present in the environment using a risk matrix to prioritize prevention efforts.
  • Coach and support supervisors in incident/accident investigations and the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Verify compliance with OHS rules and procedures and communicate any deficiencies to key personnel.
  • Act as an awareness agent and intervene when necessary to promote a safe work environment.
  • Produce OHS statistical reports to analyze risks and recommend prevention programs.
  • Participate in health and safety committee meetings to discuss and implement safety initiatives.
  • Update and develop the lockout program, work at height, and confined space procedures.
  • Communicate information on work safety and accident prevention to employee groups.

Requirements

  • Occupational health and safety certificate or diploma.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) is essential.
  • Ability to work in a context of continuous improvement and change.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
  • Organizational skills, rigor, and autonomy.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations.

Physical/Cognitive Requirements

The Preventionist must be able to follow policies and procedures, read, write, and interpret information, and use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel. They must also be able to sit, walk, or stand for up to 10 hours per day and intermittently crawl, squat, climb, twist, bend, stoop, push, or pull. Visual acuity, including close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, is also required. The ability to lift or carry items less than 40 pounds is necessary.
