Prevention Specialist

Job Summary
The Preventionist will play a key role in supporting managers and workers in identifying, correcting, and controlling environmental risks in the workplace. This will involve conducting audits, investigations, and risk assessments, as well as communicating results to key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and coordinate workplace inspections to identify potential hazards and risks.
- Conduct OHS audits in the distribution center to ensure compliance with regulations and procedures.
- Evaluate risks present in the environment using a risk matrix to prioritize corrective actions.
- Coach and support supervisors in incident/accident investigations and the implementation of corrective measures.
- Verify compliance with OHS rules and procedures and communicate any deficiencies to key personnel.
- Act as an awareness agent and intervene when necessary to promote a safe work environment.
- Produce OHS statistical reports and analyze risks to recommend prevention programs.
- Participate in health and safety committee meetings and contribute to the development of safety policies and procedures.
- Write and communicate information on work safety and accident prevention to employee groups.
Requirements
- Occupational health and safety certificate or equivalent experience.
- 3-5 years' experience in a similar position, with a focus on risk management and prevention.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills.
- Organizational skills, rigor, and autonomy to work independently.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and standards.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements
- Ability to follow policies and procedures.
- Ability to read, write, and interpret information.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Ability to use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel.
- Ability to sit, walk, or stand for up to 10 hours per day.
- Ability to intermittently crawl, squat, climb, twist, bend, stoop, push, or pull.
- Must possess visual acuity, including close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to lift or carry items less than 50 pounds.
