About the Role

Douglas College is seeking a Student Assistant to support the planning and implementation of new student transitional programming and related events.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and delivering transitional programming on campus, focusing on First Year Fridays.
  • Collaborate with the Student Life Communications Team to design and develop promotional materials.
  • Develop and present educational content for First Year Friday and other related programming.
  • Plan and facilitate activities during events, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Meet with the Student Life Coordinator on a weekly basis.
Requirements
  • Availability to attend First Year Friday events (every other Friday).
  • Maturity and thoughtfulness in dealing with issues as they arise.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, responsible, professional, and flexible.
  • Comfortable working with limited supervision.
  • Open-minded to cultures, practices, and sexual orientations different from your own.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to inclusion and cultural sensitivity.
  • Volunteer or leadership experience in Orientation and/or EDGE (desired).
  • Flexibility to work at either campus (New Westminster and Coquitlam).
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows, MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Experience in event planning and leadership (desired).
Eligibility Criteria

Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference. International students must have a valid Study Permit with the notation – "May accept employment on or off campus if meeting eligibility criteria as per R186 (F), (V) or (W)." An original copy of a Social Insurance Number (SIN) and an original Study Permit are required by law before commencing work.
