Job Summary

The Student Assistant will provide support to the Performing Arts department at Douglas College. This role involves assisting with the set-up and organization of equipment, assisting backstage during events, and/or assisting with box office and front of house duties.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with setting up chairs and stands for rehearsal or practice
  • Ensure proper storage guidelines are followed
  • Assist with set up and strike for department events
  • Assist visiting performers
  • Communicate with technicians
  • Assist with ticket sales
  • Assist with audience way finding
  • Provide accessibility support for audience members
  • Provide customer service to audience members

Requirements

  • Current Douglas College student in Music, Theatre, Stagecraft, or Music Technology preferred
  • Domestic students must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Enrolled in and maintaining a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College throughout the work term
    • Enrolled in and maintained a minimum of one or more (3 credit) courses at Douglas College in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the college in the term immediately following the work term
    • Enrolled in and maintaining a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. throughout the work term
    • Enrolled in and maintained a minimum of two or more (3 credit) courses at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. in the term immediately preceding the work term and has indicated an intention to enroll at the institution in the term immediately following the work term
  • International students must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Enrolled in full-time studies at Douglas College throughout the academic year
    • Enrolled in full-time studies at another accredited public post-secondary institution in B.C. and has a valid Study Permit
  • Qualified Douglas College students meeting the above criteria will be given first preference over students of other qualifying institutions
