About the Opportunity

This is a designated position that requires self-identification as Mi'kmaw and recognition as a member of the Mi'kmaq nation. The successful candidate will provide leadership and guidance to achieve culturally safe and appropriate health services for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous peoples.

The incumbent will lead planning and implementation of activities focused on cultural safety, liaise with Mi'kmaw and Indigenous Health leads, and support community engagement. They will also work across portfolios to ensure workplace policies and strategies support enhanced representation of Mi'kmaw and Indigenous Health Leads.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to achieve culturally safe and appropriate health services for Mi'kmaw and Indigenous peoples.
  • Liaise with Mi'kmaw and Indigenous Health leads and support community engagement.
  • Work across portfolios to ensure workplace policies and strategies support enhanced representation of Mi'kmaw and Indigenous Health Leads.
Requirements

We are looking for an individual with significant knowledge of Indigenous peoples across Nova Scotia and the Maritimes. The ideal candidate will have experience working with and engaging Mi'kmaw communities and possess strong writing skills, project management, coordination, facilitation, community engagement, and qualitative research abilities.

The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Allied Health field, Public Administration, Health Services Administration, Business Administration or relevant areas of study. A Master's degree plus three years' experience may be considered in lieu of five years' related experience. Strong communication and partnership-building skills are essential.

Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health offers a competitive salary of $36.51 - $45.64 hourly. Successful candidates may also be eligible for our benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
