Overview

HarperCollins Publishers is a leading publisher of commercial fiction and narrative nonfiction, seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist to join its team.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting the implementation and maintenance of our organization's data governance framework. The successful candidate should possess a solid understanding of data governance principles, data quality, and data management principles, and be able to develop and implement data governance solutions that meet the organization's needs.

The incumbent will work closely with business stakeholders, data owners, application owners, and data custodians to develop and implement data management processes and standards, and effectively communicate and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements data governance processes, standards, and procedures in collaboration with data owners and custodians.
  • Analyzes subject matter expertise for various data domains to document current data flows, identify data silos, duplications, and inconsistencies, and recommends solutions for resolution.
  • Leads data governance committees to align data definitions and maintain common schemas.
  • Collaborates with data owners and other cross-functional teams to document data inventory, definitions, and data mappings for integrations and data quality rules.
  • Works with technology groups to implement governance solutions and standards, controls, and validations in various source applications.
  • Develops and maintains data quality standards and metrics.
  • Ensures compliance with data governance policies and procedures.
  • Provides training and support to stakeholders on data governance policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in data governance, business analysis, or related data fields.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling and database design with the ability to write and run complex SQL queries.
  • Knowledge of metadata management tools and data catalogs for implementing governance policies and tracking data lineage, ownership, and documenting glossary and definitions.
  • Understanding data integration and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools for ensuring data consistency and integrity across different systems and applications.
  • Familiarity with relevant technologies such as SQL Server, Big Query, Azure Synapse, Power BI, among others.
  • Experience in project management, business analysis, or a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
