Job Title: Forester

Join the Government of Saskatchewan as a Forester and contribute to the protection and management of Saskatchewan's environment.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Forester to join our team in the Forest Service Branch. As a Forester, you will be responsible for regulating forest industry operations and ensuring compliance on Crown forest lands. You will work with a strong team of operations staff to review and approve forest industry operating plans, participate in compliance-related activities, and lead public consultations with various stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regulate forest industry operations and ensure compliance on Crown forest lands
  • Review and approve forest industry operating plans
  • Participate in compliance-related activities, including field investigations and public consultations
  • Lead public consultations with various stakeholders, including First Nations and Métis communities
  • Assist the Area Forester in providing forest policy direction and forest management expertise to other branches and government ministries
Requirements
  • Knowledge of coaching, guiding, and development strategies to help guide and coach a diverse group of employees
  • Knowledge of principles related to ecosystem-based forest management and legislation related to the utilization and administration of forest resources
  • Knowledge of harvesting, road construction, and decommissioning, water crossing installation and reclamation, and boreal forest silviculture
  • Knowledge of process and policy development, and the strategic planning process
  • Knowledge of compliance and enforcement theories, including natural resource law principles
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, facilitate, and lead public consultation processes with various stakeholders
